The University of Dhaka has a colourful past, glorious present and vibrant future. Since its journey on the first of July 1921, is has been contributing in spreading higher education widely as well as in nation building activities extraordinarily. Accordingly, its Engineering Section has an extraordinary role in building physical infrastructure of the University of Dhaka. As a result, the Engineering Section of the University of Dhaka started its functioning at the time of establishment of this University; and accordingly, an Engineering Service Rule was also framed by the Syndicate. At first, Mr. Monomohan Babu was the Head of the Engineering Section. His designation was then Steward. He was appointed in this post after the establishment of this section on 31.3.1948. At the beginning, the Office of the Engineering Section was in the Jagannath Hall, South House. At that time, the number of workers of this section was about 100. For the working facilities, the Office of the Engineering Section was transferred from Jahannath Hall to the Registrar building in the year 1968. Day by day, the volume of works increased in this section. Now the total staff position of this section is about 300. The head of this section is now Chief Engineer. The post of Chief Engineer was created in 1970. Mr. Mostafizur Rahman was the first Chief Engineer of this section of University of Dhaka. He acted as the Chier Engineer from 08.12.1970 to 06.05.1973. Afterwards, from time to time Engineers from the P.W.D. and the R. & H. was Mr. Amanullah Al-Faruq. Then the Syndicate on 7.3.2002 took the decision not to continue deputation. The post of the Chief Engineer was advertised in the national dailies. Mr. Ameer Huasain was appointed as a regular Chief Engineer by the Syndicate on recommendation of the Selection Committee constituted by the Authorities of University.

 

Chartered of duties

Chief Engineer

1. To act as the administrative head of the Engineering Office of the University.
2. To act as Principal Technical Officer for overall Management and Co-ordination of all works related to Engineering matters.
3. To perform such other duties as may be assigned to him by the authorities.

Superintending Engineer

1. To act as an Officer-in-Charge of a Circle (The University area is divided into two circles and four Zones for the purpose of smooth running of construction, maintenance & repair works).
2. To act as an officer for supervision and co-ordination of all works in connection with plans, estimates, construction of Building, repairs, electrical, water and gas supply and other related works of his circle.
3. To perform such other duties as may be assigned to him by the authorities.

University Engineer/Executive Engineer (Civil)

1. To act as an Officer-in-Charge of a Zone under the guidance and supervision of related Superintending Engineer. He is responsible for all works of his Zone.
2. To check up estimate and invite tenders for construction and repair work of the University.
3. To supervise construction and repair works, execute the same and to check bills of contractors.
4. To do such other duties as may be assigned by the authorities of the University.

Executive Engineer (Electrical)

1. To act as an Officer-in-Charge of a Zone under the guidance and supervision of related Superintending Engineer. He is responsible for all works of his Zone.
2. To check up estimate and invite tenders for Electrical works (Development & Maintenance), Water Supply and Telephone.
3. To supervise the Development & Maintenance works, execute the same and to check bills of contractors.
4. To do such other duties as may be assigned by the authorities of the University.

Assistant Engineer

1. To assist the respective Superintending Engineer/ Executive Engineer concerned in the discharge of his duties.
2. To supervise all construction and repair work of the University and assist the Executive Engineer for execution.
3. To check up estimates prepared by the concerned Sub-Assistant Engineer.
4. To check up bills of contractors.
5. To do such other duties as may be assigned by the authorities of the University.

Sub-Assistant Engineer

1. To assist the respective Superintending Engineer/ Executive Engineer/Asstt. Engineer concerned in the discharge of his duties.
2. To prepare estimate of works.
3. To supervise all construction and repair work of the University with cent percent responsibility.
4. To get the works completed satisfactorily.
5. To take measurement of works completed satisfactorily and prepare bills.
