Specific purposes for which ICOG can play its pioneering role are (but not limited to):
(a) to explore joint research opportunities, supervision of doctoral and postdoctoral students, staff exchange and training in various aspects of ocean governance.
(b) to build capacity of the Government of Bangladesh to transfer knowledge to its citizens on sustainable usage of ocean and its resources as well as to create a partnership between individual, governmental and non-governmental organization to increase awareness and to work on marine and coastal area management, and;
(c) to help the Government of Bangladesh to introduce an improved planning and management strategy of sustainable ocean governance that could create economic opportunities and positive initiatives for trans-boundary cooperation with other littoral States of the Bay (particularly with India and Myanmar) and contribute to the protection of the marine and coastal environment effectively.
