Golam Sarwar receives Lifetime Achievement Award, 5 DU students get scholarship
Daily Samakal Editor Golam Sarwar has been awarded ‘Ataus Samad Memorial Trust Lifetime Achievement Award’ for his outstanding contribution to journalism profession in the country. Besides, five other meritorious students of the Department of Mass Communication & Journalism of Dhaka University (DU) have received Ataus Samad Trust scholarships for their excellent academic results in BSS examinations of 2016. Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. AAMS Arefin Siddique handed over those to the awardees as chief guest at a function today, January 22, 2017 at Prof. Muzaffar Ahmed Chowdhury auditorium of the university. Dhaka University Mass Communication & Journalism Department organized the program. It may be mentioned that late journalist A B M Musa had donated money to introduce Ataus Samad Memorial Trust Fund at Dhaka University.
Treasurer of DU Prof. Dr. Md. Kamal Uddin presided over the function while Chairperson of the Department of Mass Communication & Journalism Prof. Mofizur Rahman addressed it as special guest. Renowned journalist and columnist Syed Abul Maksud delivered the memorial lecture on ‘Philosophy of Journalism.’ Associate Prof. Robaet Ferdous conducted the program.
Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. AAMS Arefin Siddique in his speech urged the students not to be involved with the falsehood. They have to reveal the truth by any cost, he added. He stressed the need for publishing objective news in media. Hundred percent correct informations should be published in it and media activists must work hard to search the truth and spread it in the society, he said.
The recipients of ‘Ataus Samad Memorial Scholarship’ are Motasim Billah, Md. Al-Amin Molla, Abdul Barik, Md. Al-Amin and Md. Ibrahim Mallik.
