Began university teaching career after the Independence of Bangladesh in 1972 at the Dept. of English, University of Chittagong as a lecturer. Since 1973 teaching at the Dept. of English, University of Dhaka. Taught English as a lecturer at the Institute of Foreign Languages, University of Oran, Algeria from 1976 to 1980. Worked as an adviser/adjunct faculty in more than a dozen public and private universities in the country.                                                                                                                                                                                      

Courses taught in Literature, Linguistics and ELT cover areas of Classical Drama (in translation); English Drama – Elizabethan and Restoration Periods; English Critical Theory; English Romantic Poetry; American Drama – Late Nineteenth and Twentieth Centuries; Sociolinguistics; Teaching Methodology; Curriculum and Course Design; Phonetics & Phonology; Morphology; Syntax; Testing & Evaluation; Basic English Language Skills: Listening, Speaking, Reading, and Writing; Technical English.

Research publications are mainly in the fields of literature, Linguistics and ELT.

Worked as a resource person for various organizations like, UNFPA, WFP, UNDP, UCEP, NCTB, Bangladesh National University, Janata Bank, and Judicial Administration Training Institute, Dhaka,

Was awarded a number of scholarships and fellowships for higher studies and research.
