Drawing and Painting Department of the Faculty of Fine Art was established in 1948, named Fine Art Department since 1963. Shilpacharya Zainul Abedin and Mr. Anwarul Huq were the pioneer teachers of this Faculty. Mr. Mohammad Kibria, Mr. Aminul Islam, Mr. Abdur Razzaque, Mr. Rashid Chowdhury, Mr. Kazi Abdul Baset, Mr. Mustafa Monwar, Mr. Rafiqun Nabi, Mr. Hashem Khan, Mr. Delwar Hossain, Mr. Monirul Islam, Mr. Mahbubul Amin, Mr. Shahid Kabir, Mr. Kazi Giyas, Mr. Mahmudul Haque joined as teachers later on. Many prominent teachers of the Faculty’s other departments are the alumni of Drawing and Painting Department. This is the largest department of Faculty considering its number of teachers and students. There are 220 students and six Professors, four Assistant Professors, three Lecturers and one Supernumerary Professor in the Department. Professors of the Department are Dr. Farida Zaman, Mr. Jamal Uddin Ahmed, Mr. Nisar Hossain, Mr. Shishir Kr. Bhattacharjee, Mr. Sheikh Afzal Hossain and Mr. Mostafizul Haque. Dr. Mohammad Iqbal Ali, Mr. Dulal Chandrow Gain, Mr. Sahid Kazi and Mr. Abdus Sattar are Assistant Professor in the Department. Recently Mr. Md. Kamal Uddin, Mr. Sumon Wahed, Mr. Bishwajit Goswami have joined as Lecturer and Professor Rafiqun Nabi as Supernumerary Professor Practical painting demonstrations such as pencil, pen-ink, charcoal, water color, oil color and acrylic color are introduced to the students as well as they learn Material Techniques and History of Art as theoretical subjects. Students of this Department have achieved enormous success in higher education, research and artistic activities at home and abroad. They are spreading out nation’s glory and pride all over the world through their art practices.
