সুকুমার কলা নামক যে বিভাগটিকে নিয়ে ১৯৪৮ সালে প্রতিষ্ঠিত গভর্নমেন্ট ইনস্টিটিউট অব আর্টস যাত্রা শুরু করেছিল ১৯৬৩ সালে সেই বিভাগেরই নাম পরিবর্তন করে রাখা হয় ডিপার্টমেন্ট অব ড্রইং অ্যান্ড পেইন্টিং বা অঙ্কন ও চিত্রায়ণ বিভাগ। প্রতিষ্ঠালগ্নে এই বিভাগে শিক্ষক হিসেবে যোগদান করেন এর প্রতিষ্ঠাতা শিল্পাচার্য জয়নুল আবেদিন ও শিল্পী আনোয়ারুল হক। পরবর্তী সময়ে উক্ত বিভাগে শিল্পী মোহাম্মদ কিবরিয়া, শিল্পী আমিনুল ইসলাম, শিল্পী আব্দুর রাজ্জাক, শিল্পী রশিদ চৌধুরী, শিল্পী কাজী আব্দুল বাসেত, শিল্পী মোস্তাফা মনোয়ার, শিল্পী হাশেম খান, শিল্পী রফিকুন নবী, শিল্পী দেলোয়ার হোসেন, শিল্পী মনিরুল ইসলাম, শিল্পী মাহমুদুল হক, শিল্পী শহীদ কবির, শিল্পী কাজী গিয়াসউদ্দিন, শিল্পী মাহবুবুল আমিন প্রমুখ শিক্ষক হিসেবে যোগদান করেন। অঙ্কন ও চিত্রায়ণ বিভাগের বর্তমান ছাত্র-ছাত্রীর সংখ্যা প্রায় ২২০ জন। এ বিভাগে ৬ জন অধ্যাপক, ৪ জন সহকারী অধ্যাপক, ৩ জন প্রভাষক ও ১ জন সংখ্যাতিরিক্ত অধ্যাপকসহ মোট ১৪ জন শিক্ষক কর্মরত রয়েছেন। এই বিভাগে ছাত্র-ছাত্রীরা ছবি আঁকার যাবতীয় কলা-কৌশল এবং পেন্সিল, কালি-কলম, চারকোল, জলরং, তেলরং ও অ্যাক্রেলিকসহ বিভিন্ন মাধ্যমে হাতে-কলমে শিক্ষা লাভ করে থাকে, পাশাপাশি শিল্পকলার ইতিহাস ও নন্দনতত্ত্ব বিষয়েও তারা শিক্ষা গ্রহণ করে। দেশে ও বিদেশে এই বিভাগের ছাত্র-ছাত্রীরা উচ্চতর শিক্ষা গ্রহণে ও গবেষণা কর্মে অংশ নেওয়ার পাশাপাশি নিয়মিত শিল্পচর্চা করে বিশেষ খ্যাতি অর্জন করছেন এবং আন্তর্জাতিক পরিমণ্ডলে বাংলাদেশের ভাবমূর্তিকে উজ্জ্বল থেকে উজ্জ্বলতর করে তুলছেন।
Department of Drawing and Painting
The Drawing and Painting Department of the Faculty of Fine Art was established in 1948. At the time, it was the Department of Fine Arts under the Institute of Arts. Later in 1963, it was named the Department of Drawing and Painting. Shilpacharya Zainul Abedin and Mr. Anwarul Huq were the pioneer teachers of this Faculty. Mr. Mohammad Kibria, Mr. Aminul Islam, Mr. Abdur Razzaque, Mr. Rashid Chowdhury, Mr. Kazi Abdul Baset, Mr. Mustafa Monwar, Mr. Rafiqun Nabi, Mr. Hashem Khan, Mr. Delwar Hossain, Mr. Monirul Islam, Mr. Mahbubul Amin, Mr. Shahid Kabir, Mr. Kazi Giyas, Mr. Mahmudul Haque joined as teachers later. Many prominent teachers of the other Departments of the Faculty are the alumni of the Drawing and Painting Department. This is the largest Department of the Faculty in consideration of its number of teachers and students. There are 220 students, six Professors, four Assistant Professors, three Lecturers and one Supernumerary Professor in the Department. Practical painting demonstrations such as pencil, pen-ink, charcoal, water colour, oil colour and acrylic colour are introduced to the students. They also learn about Material Techniques and History of Art as theoretical subjects. Students of this Department have achieved enormous success in higher education, research and artistic activities at home and abroad. They are spreading the nation’s glory and pride all over the world through their art practices.
