দুর্যোগ বিজ্ঞান ও ব্যবস্থাপনা বিভাগ (২০১২)
বাংলাদেশ বিশ্বের দুর্যোগ প্রবণ দেশগুলোর মধ্যে অন্যতম। এই লক্ষ্যে ২০১২ সালে দুর্যোগ বিজ্ঞান ও ব্যবস্থাপনা বিভাগের যাত্রা শুরু হয়। এ বিভাগ দুর্যোগ ঝুঁকি বৈজ্ঞানিক বিশ্লেষণ ও দুর্যোগ ব্যবস্থাপনার ক্ষেত্রে আন্তর্জাতিক মানের উচ্চশিক্ষা ও গবেষণা প্রদান করে। বর্তমানে, পৃথিবীতে কেবল, প্রাকৃতিক দুর্যোগই নয় বরং মানবসৃষ্টি নানা দুর্যোগ ও যেমন: সন্ত্রাসবাদ, যুদ্ধ, যান্ত্রিক বিপর্যয় ইত্যাদি ও আর্থ-সাময়িক ভারসাম্যহীনতার জন্য দায়ী। এছাড়াও দুর্যোগ ব্যবস্থাপনার ক্ষেত্রে জেন্ডার ইস্যুটিকে আর ও বাস্তবসম্মত উপায়ে বিবেচনা করা প্রয়োজন। এখন পর্যন্ত বহুসংখ্যক জাতীয় ও আন্তর্জাতিক প্রকল্প হতে দুর্যোগ ঝুঁকি ও আপদকালীন ক্ষয়ক্ষতি সংক্রান্ত অনেক জ্ঞান ও তথ্য সংগৃহীত হয়েছে। এখন এই অর্জিত জ্ঞানকে একাডেমিকভাবে বিন্যস্ত ও উন্নত করার সময় হয়েছে। এই উদ্দেশ্যেই মূলত দুর্যোগ বিজ্ঞান ও ব্যবস্থাপনা বিভাগ জাতীয় ও মানবিক উন্নয়নের লক্ষ্যকে সামনে রেখে এগিয়ে যাবে। বিজ্ঞান ও সমাজ বিজ্ঞানের যৌথ প্রয়োগে উচ্চশিক্ষার ক্ষেত্রে এ বিভাগ নতুন মাত্রা যোগ করবে।
Department of Disaster Science and Management (DSM)
Bangladesh is one of the most disaster-prone countries in the world. The Department of Disaster Science and Management started its journey in 2012 with a vision to provide international standard high-quality education and research in the area of hazard science and disaster management. Particularly, countries like Bangladesh are frequently experiencing extreme events and need efficient manpower to guide the community, government and non-government organizations in the proper way as well as to broaden the existing understanding of hazards and climate change from real life experiences. The world is not only threatened by extreme natural events but also anthropogeni disasters like terrorism, war and technological disasters also have a tremendous impact on socio-economical imbalance. Along with these social aspects, gender issues in disaster management aslo need to be addressed in a more sophisticated way. So far, huge knowledge has been agglomerated from numerous national and international projects working on reducing the risk and vulnerability of crisis situations. It’s high time to bring this knowledge in an academic format and to enhance the existing knowledge. This is how the Department has emerged. The Department of Disaster Science and Management will keep marching by realizing its importance in the context of humanitarian and national development perspective. Our multidisciplinary blending of science with social aspects foresees to add a new dimension to highter education.
