ক্রিমিনোলজি বিভাগ (২০১৪)
ঢাকা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের সামাজিক বিজ্ঞান অনুষদের অধীনে একটি স্বতন্ত্র বিভাগ হিসেবে ক্রিমিনোলজি বিভাগ প্রতিষ্ঠিত হয় ২০১২ সালের ৩০ এপ্রিল। সমাজবিজ্ঞানী অধ্যাপক ড. জিয়া রহমান প্রতিষ্ঠাতা চেয়ারম্যান হিসেবে বিভাগটির দায়িত্ব গ্রহণ করেন ২০১৩ সালের ২৪ নভেম্বর। অপরাধ শিক্ষা, অপরাধমূলক আচরণ ও কর্মকাণ্ড, অপরাধের কারণ ও প্রতিকার, ফৌজদারি বিচার ব্যবস্থা ইত্যাদি বিষয়ে তাত্ত্বিক ও প্রয়োগিক দৃষ্টিভঙ্গিমূলক পাঠদান কার্যক্রমের ব্রত নিয়ে বিভাগটি যাত্রা শুরু করে। বর্তমানে বিভাগটিতে সাতজন পূর্ণকালীন শিক্ষক রয়েছেন যাঁরা সমাজবিজ্ঞান, আইন, ক্রিমিনোলজি, নৃবিজ্ঞান এবং গণযোগাযোগ ও সাংবাদিকতা বিষয়ে উচ্চতর ডিগ্রিধারী। ক্রিমিনোলজি বিভাগটি অনার্স ও মাস্টার্স শিক্ষা কার্যক্রম পরিচালনা করে। বর্তমানে অনার্স পর্যায়ে প্রায় ১৫০ জন শিক্ষার্থী ও মাস্টার্স পর্যায়ে ৬৫ জন শিক্ষার্থী পড়াশোনা করছে। শিক্ষা, গবেষণা ও প্রশিক্ষণে শিক্ষক ও শিক্ষার্থীদের উৎকর্ষে পৃথিবীর বিভিন্ন দেশের বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় ও প্রতিষ্ঠানের সাথে সহযোগিতামূলক সম্পর্ক প্রতিষ্ঠাও ক্রিমিনোলজি বিভাগের উদ্দেশ্য। বর্তমানে, বিভাগটি ঢাকা মেট্রোপলিটন পুলিশের একটি গবেষণাধর্মী প্রজেক্ট ও বিশ্ব ব্যাংকের অধীনে HEQEP প্রজেক্ট নিয়ে কাজ করছে।
Department of Criminology
The Department of Criminology has been established as a separate Department under the Faculty of Social Sciences of the University of Dhaka, on April 13, 2012. Sociologist Professor Dr. Zia Rahman joined as the founder chair of the Department on November 24, 2013. The Department has started its journey concentrating on studying crime, criminal behaviour, criminal activities, causes of crime, social control and crime prevention mechanism, criminal justice system etc. in a systematic manner articulating diversified theoretical and practical approaches. At present, the Department has seven Faculty members having background in Sociology, Law, Criminology, Anthropology and Journalism. The Department offers both undergraduate and graduate programmes in Criminology. At present, there are 150 students in three undergraduate batches while the Masters programme has 65 students. The Department seeks to develop collaboration with universities around the world in terms of enhancing teaching, research and trainings for the students and faculty members of the department. Currently, the Department has two ongoing research projects sponsored by Dhaka Metropolitan Police and the World Bank under the HEQEP Project.
