ঢাকা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় সর্বপ্রথম বাণিজ্য অনুষদের অধীনে একাডেমিক কাউন্সিল ও সিন্ডিকেটের সিদ্ধান্ত মোতাবেক ২০০৪ সালের আগস্ট থেকে ব্যাংকিং বিভাগ চালু করার সিদ্ধান্ত নেয়। ২০০৪ সালে প্রতিষ্ঠার পর থেকে বিভাগটি আধুনিক ব্যবসায়িক বিশ্বের প্রয়োজনীয়তা পূরণের জন্য এবং বিশেষত ব্যাংকিং এবং বীমা ক্ষেত্রে দক্ষতা সম্পন্ন কর্মকর্তা এবং প্রশিক্ষিত জনশক্তি তৈরিতে প্রতিশ্রুতিবদ্ধ। বিভাগে ৪ বছরের বিবিএ প্রোগ্রাম, ১ বছরের এমবিএ প্রোগ্রাম, M. Phil, Ph. D, DBA, MPB, MAS and DTM প্রোগ্রাম চালু আছে।
ব্যাংকিং বিভাগ বাংলাদেশের শিক্ষার ক্ষেত্রে একটি আন্তর্জাতিক মানের প্রতিষ্ঠান হিসাবে পরিগণিত হওয়ার দৃঢ় প্রত্যাশা রেখে আত্মপ্রকাশ করেছে। বিভাগটি শুরু থেকেই শিক্ষার মান উন্নয়নের লক্ষ্যে যুগোপযোগী সিলেবাস ও কোর্স কারিকুলাম প্রবর্তন করে আসছে। শিক্ষা কার্যক্রমে গতিশীলতা আনার লক্ষ্যে বিভাগে নিজস্ব কম্পিউটার ল্যাব, শ্রেণিকক্ষে এয়ারকন্ডিশনার, মাল্টিমিডিয়া, ওভারহেড প্রজেক্টর ও সাউন্ড সিস্টেমসহ অন্যান্য সুযোগ-সুবিধা রয়েছে।
বিভাগে দক্ষ মানবসম্পদ উন্নয়নের জন্য যুগোপযোগী ও বাস্তবমুখী শিক্ষা প্রদানের লক্ষ্যে নিয়মিত বিভিন্ন ব্যাংক ও আর্থিক প্রতিষ্ঠান কর্তৃক অর্থাৎ ছাত্র-ছাত্রীদের জন্য E-Banking, Risk Management in Banking, Insurance, Central Banking, Foreign Exchange, Credit Management ইত্যাদি অভিজ্ঞ ও উচ্চ পদস্থ কর্মকর্তা দ্বারা সেমিনারের আয়োজন করা হয়ে থাকে।
Department of Banking and Insurance
The vision of the Department is to develop skilled human resources with specialized education and training particularly in Banking and Financial services. Since its inception in 2004, the Department is committed to catering for the needs of modern business world and producing executives and trained manpower with strong skills in business, particularly in banking and insurance. The Department offers a 4-year BBA programme, 1-year MBA programme and other post-graduate programmes (including M. Phil & Ph. D) in the Department. It has introduced MBA (Evening) programme for the executives and officials. Right from the outset, the Department constantly focuses on academic excellence and uncompromising standard for which it has earned reputation. Recently, the Department has introduced 3 professional programmes namely Master of Actuarial Science, Master of Professional Banking and Master in Tax Management to meet the emerging corporate challenges of the professionals. The Faculty members of this Department are highly qualified and actively engaged in extensive research. They have many research publications to their credit. The dynamic course structure, supreme expertise of the Faculty members and modern teaching standard add greater value to the Department. The Department has already earned commendable exposure in the financial services sector for imparting quality teaching and creating outstanding graduates.
